Fish Habitat Improvements
In Ashlu Creek, there are no natural, resident fish in the bypass reach due to the cold water and poor spawning habitat; only a few stocked fish migrate downstream to the Squamish River. The portion of the creek where water will be diverted, is a steep walled canyon, which is inaccessible to anglers and kayakers.
All of the diverted water would be discharged back into the creek, upstream of the salmon spawning area at the bottom of Ashlu Creek, to ensure no net loss of fish habitat.
