Community Benefits to the Upper Squamish Valley Residents
Ledcor and the Squamish Nation are working together with the residents of the Upper Squamish Valley to determine what benefits can be provided to the community from the Ashlu Green Power Project. Some immediate benefits are:
- A proposed Community Benefits and Amenities Agreement to be managed and spent by the local community.
- Free 6” minus crush gravel from tunnel construction.
- Local hire preference to qualified trades and workers.
- Help in Establishing a neighbourhood Liaison committee of residents, the Squamish Nation and project personnel to identify and resolve any construction issues on an ongoing basis.
- Commitment to a protocol agreement with the construction contractor to address issues relating to potential traffic, noise and safety matters.
Ledcor seeks input from Upper Squamish community
Ledcor is seeking ideas from the residents of the Upper Squamish Valley on benefits that could be provided to the community. For example, Ledcor will be constructing a salmon enhancement project that will provide water to a large area of the Ashlu delta that is naturally dry during most of the year, as well as several large pools that will provide fish rearing habitat. Some projects that have been suggested are:
- A proposed playground and/or basketball court near the North Vancouver Outdoor School
- A proposed swimming pond at the upper end of the Ashlu delta by the existing fisheries ponds
- A fire suppression system and organisation of a volunteer fire department for the Upper Squamish area
Ledcor will solicit proposals on these and other ideas; once received, the ideas will be presented to the community and discussions carried out to determine which ideas have the highest priority to the community. Your ideas can be sent to power@ledcor.com or call 604-699-2859.
